Another spellbinding read from Shapeshifter Sagas
Another spellbinding read from the Shapeshifter Sagas, having loved the first book, Scars, so much I couldn't wait to start this new story. The descriptions and research that has obviously been undertaken by the author brought this Viking story to life, at times I felt that I was actually seeing the story being played out in front of me rather than reading from the pages. The characters, good and bad, really stood out bringing out emotion as you followed them.
The authors writing, yet again, captured my imagination from the start as Eilish and her father were awoken by screams heard nearby and were forcibly taken and captured as slaves, or thralls as they were called, to be sold to the highest bidder at the slave market. Her fathers quick thinking knowing of the Viking reputation and desperate to keep his daughter as safe as she could possibly be, cut off her long hair into a shaggy boys cut and told her that her life depended on her being taken as a boy. Now harrowingly separated from her father Eilish caught the eye of Leif, the Viking son of Ragna, who felt sorry for the weak looking slave and was bought to be used as a deckhand on their ship, the Kraken, unbeknownst to him that she was actually a girl.
Leif lived almost as a prisoner himself under his fathers hatred who's only concern was to amass enough treasure to be accepted by AEgir, the god of the sea. His only worth to his father was his shapeshifting abilities while they were constantly at sea raiding. The question is will Eilish be able to keep her secret and stay alive under such gruelling conditions and vicious Viking captors and will Leif ever be free of his fathers invisible chains? How will fate play out for both of these loveable characters?
This is definitely an addictive series to read, each story so far has been completely different and I loved them both, highly anticipating the next book release!
