Justin Cobb is a teenager who still sucks his thumb, much to the annoyance of his father. Its his security blanket. Justin's father owns a sporting goods store and is an avid outdoors man, Justin has no intrest in such things. His mother has a crush on some tv actor and wants to win a date with him so she enters an essay contest. His brother is more the athletic type. Typical dysfunctional family. Justin has a new agey dentist who tries hypnosis on him to cure him of his thumbsucking ways, and dang it, it works. Now without a security blanket what is Justin to do? He throws himself into whatever he can. Debate club, sex, marijuana, religion. My main problem with this book was the ending. It had one of those up in the air endings with no resolution. But then again Justin never really finished what he started, so maybe that was the right tone to end one?
