Through Another Lens is a series of prayers and reflections on the Sunday Gospels for liturgical Cycle C seen through the unique prism of spiritual poetry. Utilizing an innovative way to view sacred scripture, Through Another Lens draws from classic poems by Mary Oliver, Thomas Merton, William Butler Yeats, and others, to illuminate and deepen an understanding of Gods word as we reflect on each of the Sunday Gospels. Reading sacred poetry is a time-honored spiritual practice that enables us to set aside our mundane concerns, while we look at the Gospels with eyes anew. When we read a poem we do not simply read words, we enter a sacred space. Many times this awareness, as well as the words themselves, leads us into prayer and meditation. The experience of using a different lens to pray with each Sunday Gospel challenges the reader to enter each Gospel passage in a new way, leading us to a new, deeper, and richer communion with Gods message. Through prayerful contemplation of the Gospels seen through the lens of poetry, Barbara Jean Franklin, ASC, empowers each of us to apply Jesus' teachings to our daily life. Through Another Lens is an invaluable companion piece to the Sunday Gospels.
