Excellent
Also excellent. Gives an overview of the state of the world, and its composition into four WORLDS so to speak and the Church's attitudes (which differ) to each of those worlds.
Goes into detail about the various types/groupings of people who think this or that way.
The shortcomings and strengths of three Popes and the Cardinal (Pius XII, Jonh XXIII and Paul VI, Cardinal Bea) - but basically Martin seems to conclude that we have lost the battle for the souls of men (in whatever category) because we have tried to meet the world on the world's terms. All his books end up with very positive scenarios for all is not lost, but it describes the agonies we are going through because we are not exercising the supernatural Love towards one another, and those outside the Church - the Love that only comes through faith - and of course the Church is His Instrument through which the true faith and supernatural Love is accessible to mankind.
