This is a book of short stories by Wm Faulkner. I read only The Bear- about a boy who gets his first gun, and hunting trip at age 10, and becomes a skilled woodsman and hunter in the Mississippi forests. I found it very confusing and incomprehensible in parts! Set in rural Mississippi in the mid 1800s to the mid 20th c, it reveals a pristine forest being destroyed by encroaching civilization. And like wily old bear Ben, it will eventually be gone, killed by stronger forces than it is. Indians, blacks, whites, and a mix of all 3 inhabit the area and the story. Ike tells the story back and forth from the period in his life when he begins to hunt down Ben.
