We all know that some day humanity will be extinct. We do not know how it will happen, but we hope that it happens a long time from now. This book examines six immediate threats to humanity, threats that have the potential to kill us all soon. Each of these threats can have an impact not just on one country but on all humanity, should it materialize. For some of the threats such as an impact by an asteroid or meteor or global warming the worldwide impact is obvious. For others, such as a pandemic or nuclear terrorism it may not be quite as obvious but it is none the less real. For a volcanic eruption to have a worldwide impact may seem unlikely to most readers, but as that chapter indicates, it has happened in the past. Finally artificial intelligence is not likely to be developed in only one country. It too will be worldwide. The authors are scientists who are experts in their respective fields. They explain the likelihood of each of these catastrophic events actually happening and what steps can be taken to try to prevent these catastrophes from occurring. Each chapter uses popular movies depicting these catastrophes and explains the likelihood of these events actually occurring.
