It is only as we know Him, and the deep reality of our relationship to Him, that this chapter will be opened up to us. Let us come again to our gracious Master, Who waits to declare Him unto us--sitting at His feet let us ask Him to teach us--Lord, show us the Father, and it sufficeth us. Running through this chapter are two lines of thought that become one in the deep underlying truth. i. The Father's Claim. 2. The Soul's Supply. The two rise up sharply side by side in the Lord's Prayer--" Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be Thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done on earth, as it is done in heaven"--thus far the Father's claim. Then comes the child's supply. "Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our debts, as we also forgive our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil." Then we reach the point at which the two unite: "For Thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen." These two make up the inner life of holiness. We will take them in order, asking the blessed Spirit to lead us by His light. I. The Father's Claim. Born of God, we are bound to Him, as we have seen, in the deepest, closest, most abiding relationship. This great love of our Father has its claim upon us.
