The Thor movie novelization essentially follows the same series of events of the popular 2011 movie of the same title. Thor and his powerful hammer are cast out of the kingdom of Asgard by his father Odin after Thor's arrogance and impulsiveness renew the conflict between Asgard and the Frost Giants. Thor is banished to Earth and attempts to retrieve his hammer. Thor's friends leave Asgard to rescue him. While on Earth, Thor befriends scientist Jane Foster and eventually learns that, if he is to be the ruler of Asgard, he must demonstrate compassion, humility, and patience. I did like this book a great deal (and the movie, too) but I was disappointed that Thor's final battle with the Destroyer and the resolution of the conflict between Thor and his brother Loki were not mentioned in the book. Thus, this is one of those rare cases where the movie is actually better than the book. Nevertheless, the moral of the book and movie (arrogance and impulsiveness lead to trouble) make this a great story for all ages.
