Hugo Manning (1913-1977) Born as Lazarus Perkoff. His parents were Polish Jews. In WW2 he joined the Intelligence Corps with whom he served in North Africa where he was injured. 1946 he became a writer with Reuters on the South American desk and went on to become Poetry Editor for the New Statesman. Very good indeed.
