This is my first J.D. Mason novel. It was a recommendation from my wife after I agreed to read a book of her selection. This is one of the first books that I have read which honestly had a wonderful start, great middle, but the ending for Dr. Watkins, Elise, Tess, and Renee all left something to be desired. Over all, the book was a great fast read. I enjoyed the drama and the truth behind all extramarital affairs. They all end in some form of hurt and/or regret, the author does a good job of passing on that ending. For the truthfulness of the story I thought Mason did a great job. The author was able to convey the passion and feelings associated with the initial lust/infatuation cycle that spark affairs. I could really relate to the guys and there initial feelings all men have seen some level of temptation from similar women. She then moves onto the impacts that home and wives experience in terms of lack of sexual interest or inattentiveness. Mason also shows three types of women that have potential to go down the affair road. The woman desperate for love, the woman that needs intimate satisfaction, and the woman that responses to the empty nest. These three are good basis for motivation in the story. But, I think the author could have expanded on Renee and Tess? motivations in particular. I also didn?t understand the ending associated with Elise, Lewis, or Renee. These endings fizzled a little for me. My last issue associated with the story can be found in most books that fall under the African American Romance genre. There are several occasions where its implied that Renee and Elise engage in unprotected sex. Either I?m blind to the reality of the world or in denial but I can?t believe these intelligent and suburban women would actually be this unsafe. As a whole I give this book 3 out of 5 stars. Its an average story that rolls along at a fast pace.

As always, J. D. Mason hit a home run!
It was truly good reading, but I wish Mason would decrease the number of characters in her novels. There tend to be too many...so many, in fact, that I find myself having to go back to former pages, from time to time, to refresh my memory as to who's who! Mason is still an outstanding writer, though, and I'll continue to read her work.
