Think and Grow Rich is one of the most popular and most-read personal development and success books of all time, Think and Grow Rich will probably be on the bookshelves of most successful entrepreneurs, business people and athletes. While written in 1937, this trend setting book still appeals to a broad audience today with many young people finding out about it and embracing its words. Its been reported thats that by 2015, over 100 million copies of the book had been sold worldwide.
Napoleon Hill was tasked by international industrialist Andrew Carnegie to interview over 500 affluent men and women to discover what was their secret to attaining their great wealth. Although then underlying principles are still the same, the newer editions includes more modern-day achievers such as Bill Gates, Steven Spielberg and Arnold Schwarzenegger, to make it more relatable to the modern reader. The truth is still the truth regardless its age.
The book starts off stating that "thoughts are things" and is the primary reason he found these people were successful. Hill goes on to spell out his "steps to riches ... they are:
Desire
Faith
Autosuggestion
Specialized Knowledge
Imagination
Organized planning
Decision
Persistence
Power of the Master Mind
The Mystery of Sex Transmutation
The Subconscious Mind
The Brain
The Sixth Sense
While easy to dismiss just from the chapter titles, the smart money digs deeper to discover their clear and hidden meanings. For example, here are some of the key takeaways you will find in TAGR--
Hill talks about FAITH - not necessarily the type of faith found in religions â" instead its the ability to generate a state of mind using affirmation or repeated instruction or what he calls AUTOSUGGESTION. Hill believes that poverty is the result of a mindset, as people believe they are doomed to poverty or failure. This type of negative belief, he continues, is the cause of their misfortune. Hill suggests we have faith in ourselves and faith in the Infinite Intelligence.
One of the more well know concepts found from the book and used today world over is the MASTER MIND. The concept was coined in 1925 by Napoleon Hill in his book The Law of Success, then Hill we on in more detail in pages of Think and Grow Rich. This book is what gave life to masterminding. Hill defines a mastermind as: ââ?¬Å"Coordination of knowledge and effort, in a spirit of harmony, between two or more people, for the attainment of a definite purposeââ?¬Â?.
It is said that Andrew Carnegie had a mastermind group of 50 men and women, which is more than Hill suggests. You must find the right people (quality) to be in your Master Mind, versus going for quantity
The book also includes a section on clearing the brain for riches and finishes with the Devils workshop. Don't let the word Devil cloud your mind with preconceived judgements of it being evil. The Devils workshop is a chapter which discusses the much-needed strategies of warding off the susceptibility to negative influences. The language used tells us Hill thought is vitally important. Remember, thoughts are things?
This chapter has a self-analysis questionnaire which should be revisited â" the author suggests answers should be spoken out loud in your own voice as he felt in this way you are more accepting and will be more truthful to yourself. There are a lot of questions, and may be tedious and even uncomfortable at times, but it may be a turning point in your success to get this done.
This book is a must-read for anyone interested in success. It sets the foundation for you to grow and cope with all the things this career path will throw at you. In our groups, TAGR Nation, we talk expand, expound, and explain even more of the modern applications like to what Dr Hill has done in his book. In 2021, people are ready for this information. Napoleon Hill seems to have discovered the system of success through a kind of ethnology with his mentors - i.e., listening to them, and curating the results. This is what Hill does very well. Instead of Hill coming from a personal expert vantage and imposing preconceived ideas onto his readers, he gives them a clear map for them to follow.

Think and Grow Rich
Must be a timeless classic, first published 1937. Along with Dale Carnegie's How to Win Friends and Influence People of the same era, this is a highly inspirational, philosophical and practical handbook.
