I found this book in a Readers Digest Condensed Book Volume from 1972. It's hard to get into those because of various stories within 1 vol. But I couldn't put this one down and read it all the way through in a few days. What a strange and chilling story. A painting that takes the person viewing it as a character in the painting. A killer of Christ is what the looker will become, and that's frightening enough. Then the major character Kirk, goes to the birthplace of the painter from the 1700's, in Germany. This leads to incredible revelations about the painter and his past as well as Kirk's own test of faith. A very original Masterpiece by the author ot "Lillies of the Field".
