The Sacred Hills is a fast moving story that will keep you turning the pages. Like all his "trail of the spanish bit" books, this book is also about the "plains" indians. The Blue Paints have invaded the country of the Red Rock band of the "people" and almost annihilate the band. They are merciless, cruel, and very strong in numbers. The Elk Dog band of the people, with the blessing of the whole tribe, go to their long time enemy, the Head-Splitters, for help. After much skepticism, the "Head-Splitters" agree that the "Blue Paints" are a real threat, and upon receiving word from their scouts, they realize that there may be more "Blue Paints" than the "Head-Splitters" and all the bands of the people combined. How the medicine men of both tribes put their medicine together to defeat the "Blue Paints" is the story of the Sacred Hills.
