Seller's Description:
Good. *1963 Hardcover*, rebound. Ex-Library with neat library markings. Text is clean, Binding is strong. Rebound in a very nice brown cloth cover with gold lettering on spine.
Jeremias' work in this book is absolutely outstanding. Baptism has it's origin in the practices and understanding of the Jewish community, which was the predominant Christian community of the first three centuries, not the Gentiles, as many people believe. This context is essential for understanding the continuity of practice of faith that is baptism for the Jews, the Jewish Christians, and ultimately the Christian Community. The context that Jeremias reveals is consistent with the unaltered comprehension and practice of baptism in the Eastern Orthodox Churches to this day. Jeremias' work is an authentic understanding of baptism in the early church.
