Although this 4th ed. is not the latest edition of this work (5th ed came later), this is the edition I remember being on my parent's bookshelves when I was little. I was very taken by this rich helping of many different British poets and authors, which gave a broad introduction to the literature of that historical land. This is the kind of reference material you find yourself referring back to over the years. If you're new to British literature of the ages, or want a gift for yourself or someone you love for their personal book shelf, this is an excellent choice.
