Fine scholarship
This classic is really a must for all organists intending to explore the French Baroque repertoire and it's vast but sometimes confusing nomenlaclture and styles.
At the time that this book was written, there was not a great deal of perception and clarity in understanding the style, the composition of the instruments and the historical background of this repertoire.
What is noteworthy, is that this volume has stood up well to the test of time, although other later books (such as Barbara Owens' 'The Registration of baroque Organ Music')
reveal the fruition of the movement that Douglas' book heralds.
