Seller's Description:
Like New in Very Good jacket. Some short tears and edgewear to dustjacket. The island is Skokholm, tiny and remote, off the wild westerly coast of Wales. It was there that Ronald Lockley went as a young man to live and to study the thousands of wild creatures that shared the 240 acres with him. Seabirds are at the center of this book--eighty thousand breeding birds--shearwaters, puffins, guillemots, petrels--filling every crevice and burrow, were Mr. Lockley's constant study. Ronald Mathias Lockley (8 November 1903-12 April 2000) was a Welsh ornithologist and naturalist. He wrote over fifty books on natural history, including a major study of shearwaters, and many articles. He is perhaps best known for his book The Private Life of the Rabbit. Lockley was awarded an Honorary MSc by the University of Wales in 1977, in recognition of his distinction as a naturalist. In 1993 he was awarded the Union Medal of the British Ornithologists' Union. Charles Frederick Tunnicliffe, (1901-1979) was an internationally renowned naturalistic painter of British birds and other wildlife.
