Seller's Description:
Good. No Jacket. Two volumes (complete). Of interest is the signature of ownership of Vice Admiral Richard Wells who was Commander-in-Chief of Cape of Good Hope until 1890. Dated: September 2nd 1890 (the day after his appointment ended). Volume I has been rebound with a fabricated cover. Pages from frontispiece to xvi have been copied and these are inserted. Pages 595 to 598 are fragile; however, these are encased in film pockets and are firmly attached. The book is handsome and healthy. The covers are a little worn and scuffed. The contents have some mild foxing. They are otherwise pleasing, clear, tight and very confident. Volume II is benign. This is the volume with Wells' signature. This volume too has been rebound with a refabricated cover. Both volumes bear a decoration of a Zulu warrior with the label: Tshaka. Within there have been repairs about the guttering of both inside covers with invisible scotch tape. The contents have some foxing. The folded map at the rear is foxed and the rear-side is tanned. The map is neat and firm. The pages are clear, tidy, neat, very certain. This is a pleasant, clubbable set. fk.
