Uniformly bound in a later, mid 19th century 3/4 polished burgundy calf over marbled paper covered boards; t. E. G. Heavy gilt spines in six compartments with black and red leather title and volume labels. Contents complete and very neat, with copperplate frontis portrait of Penn facing the title page of Vol I and the large fold-out map of Pennsylvania, New Jersey, maryland & Delaware bound in between the final page of the introduction (166) and the first page of the primary text [167]. 508; 373, 146 pp. Some light scuffing and skinning to the calf over the front corners; light shelf rubbing and scuffing over spine edges and a few of the raised spine hubs. Red leather colume lables have tiny chips mid-label. Bindings are tight and quite sound. A prior owner; s small 20th c address label is partially torn away on the front marbled paper pastedown. A well preserved copy which retains the large map usually missing from copies that appear in the market. The cleanest and best preserved example I have handled, with a somewhat worn but still attractive fine rebinding. VG thus.
