Seller's Description:
Lucian Freud. Very Good. A signed limited edition copy of William Sansom's 1948 novella, illustrated by Lucian Freud, and signed by Sansom. A Limited Edition work, limited to seven-hundred and fifty copies, of which this is numbered three-hundred and five, and signed by author William Sansom to the limitation page. This unusual novella has been identified as owing 'a little too much to Kafka', sharing in his same strangeness. The hero awakes to find himself able to walk only at a 45-degree angle, having completely lost his body's equilibrium. Illustrated with five plates from prominent twentieth century portrait artist Lucian Freud, the grandson of Sigmund Freud. Collated, complete. With bookplates from Bristol Public Libraries to the front pastedown and front free endpaper, and their stamps to the title page. No further library markings. In the publisher's original quarter cloth binding, with marbled paper covered boards. Externally, fine. Library bookplates to front pastedown and front free endpaper. Internally, firmly bound. Library stamps to title page. Pages otherwise exceptionally clean and bright. Very Good.
