Sepia-tone frontispieces, full-page sepia-tone illustrations. Very good/very good. Faint bit of edgewear only. An exceptionally tight and attractive set with usually-absent black d.j. present and handsome. Side by side French/English texts. Colophon leaf notes 960 numbered copies (this #438) signed boldly by Nicolson. These two thick volumes are often found worn and rough, making this clean, unworn set quite attractive. Villon (1431-ca. 1463) was by far the best known French poet of the late Middle Ages, a renowned shady character whose verse chronicles his escapades.
