Martinus Harinxma is one of my favorite Jan de Hartog characters. He is larger than life and is the epitome of a deep water sailor. I enjoyed all three books in which he was the lead character. Wish there were more.

Super!
This is a wonderful WWII story about convoy duty in the North Sea. Mr. DeHartog writes stories with an excellent balance between a good adventure story, moral issues, and the emotions involved. The Captain is the first of several books about a Dutch sea-going tug boat captain.
