I ordered this because I had seen it well spoken of in various places. I can't imagine why. I found it completely lacking in atmosphere (something Carr usually does well). I read to the end solely to discover the solution, and I wasn't impressed.
By way of getting a second opinion, I lent it to my sister. Her comment was, "I don't think he decided until he got to the end whether it was going to be a ghost story or not."
Enough said.
