Very Good in Good Plus jacket. 8vo. 355pp, index. Or black and blue cloth in jacket. Endpapers and edges lightly foxed, jacket soiled, price clipped, chipped and torn. In this analysis of all of the tragedies of Jean Racine, Weinberg evaluates Racine's success in each of his plays according to the timeless aesthetic criteria by which Racine measured his own art. The objective of the study is to show how Racine progressively solved some of the major problems of dramaturgy. Each drama is discussed as an artistic structure designed to produce a specific emotional effect on the audience.
