CHAPTER XVII That morning at breakfast Holland remarked on the pallor of his friend's face. "You look absolutely worn out," he said. "Did too much yesterday, I suppose. Didn't you sleep well?" "Yes, I slept." A trace of colour flushed into his cheeks. "But I sometimes think I'm far from well." Holland laid down his knife and fork and looked up from his plate of bacon and fried egg.
