Katharine Wright was sister to Wilbur and Orville, but her story has been eclipsed by their fame. Richard Maurer's engaging biography seeks to redress that oversight. Illustrated with family and archival photos, the text is well written and extensively quotes personal papers and private letters.
The volume is slim (an indication of how little of Katharine's story was preserved for posterity) but if read in conjunction with a biography of her two famous brothers (David McCullough's, for example) it provides valuable insights into some of the lesser-known aspects of their early attempts to put a human in flight.
Overlooked by history, Katharine may finally be getting her due.
