The Women of Soul is an entertaining, budget-line collection that features both classic soul (Etta James' "Tell Mama," Aretha Franklin's "Never Grow Old") and urban soul (Jody Watley's "Lookin for a New Love," Patti LaBelle's "New Attitude," Stephanie Mills' ("I Have Learned to Respect the Power of Love" and Alicia Myers' "You Get the Best from Me"). The result is a bit incoherent, but it's still entertaining, especially when its price is added into the equation. ~ Stephen Thomas Erlewine, Rovi
