I just love this little book! I remember borrowing it from our local library when I was in 1st grade (1970) and feeling so grown up because it was a book recommended for at least third graders! What I loved about it then and what I still love about it is the fantasy world that two young girls (characters in the book) create about a witch family. They also create adventures for the little witch girl with whom I identified so much. I can also remember Malachai the magic bumblebee and the little poem the girls created to summon him when in trouble. Overall, this is a delightlful little book but it is definitely written for young girls. So, if you are an adult seeking a good book to sink your teeth into, I would not recommend this book; I would recommend the Harry Potter series instead. However, if you are an adult looking for an adventurous fantasy story for your 1st, 2nd, 3rd, or 4th grade daughter or niece--I would definitely recommend this book!

wonderful story
The review headline says it all! This is a wonderful story that engages the child from the beginning to the end.The characters are as real to a child as any Disney film.Your kids will love this story and, it will stay with them a lifetime.I,m 53 and I am buying it for our grandchildren.I first read this in elementary school, then later to our children from our local library.I forgot the name of the book but, never the story. I'm so glad to have found it at last.I hope you find it too.Happy reading!
