Walapai People
I was inspired to read this book after meeting the son (I presume) of the Tribal Chairman who autographed it, on my first visit to the Grand Canyon. Dobyns and Euler are not only studied and learned about historical dates, names and numbers, they present their subject with a passion which evoked a feeling deep within me - a feeling of shame and disgust at my Anglo-American heritage. Shame and disgust at the way we have treated the native peoples and their sacred lands. I could equate this story to "Bury My Heart at Wounded Knee" or perhaps even "Dances With Wolves" if it dealt more with a story line of the people specifically, and less with factual data. Very well done, though ... I would like to read more of Dobyns / Euler.
