This is a well-researched work on the vaudeville scene in NYC, and a social history at the same time. Most of what I've been reading about vaudeville hinges on reminiscences and memoirs, many of which are repetitive and focus on the most successful performers. This work puts vaudeville into a larger perspective, and gives you a much better idea of the performing tradition, the lives of the performers and the role of entertainment in NYC during the late 19th and early 20th centuries.
