William Flower (c.1498-1588) was appointed Norroy King of Arms in 1565. His heraldic visitation to the Province of York also included families from Northumberland, Durham, Cumberland, Westmoreland and Lancashire who were intermarried with Yorkshire families. A valuable genealogical reference of which only two original copies are in existence. Visitations were carried out by heralds by commission of the Crown starting with King Henry VIII with the principal visitations taking place in the reigns of Elizabeth I, James I and Charles II.
