"Hey There Lonely Boy" lacks the fire of Holman's, but the Romantics' original did make the Top 40, stalling at number 27. Despite its stark beauty and melodious hook, "Young Wings Can Fly," their fourth single, failed to enter the Top 40 (braking at number 47). The Akron, OH natives' fifth single, "Our Everlasting Love," should have done better but stopped at number 64, their worst showing to date. A disturbing trend had developed: each single had done worse than the previous. "Does He Really Care for Me" had a tougher sound than earlier releases but only reached number 87.
