Intense
I really enjoyed reading this book, especially because of the writing. The writing was simple since it is written from a child's point of view. It really allows you to get into the main character's thoughts. The one thing I did not like though is that there are really intense moments (such as a death or a rape scene) and these are only a half page and then the book moves on. It does not allow the reader to fully cope with what has just happened. It is possible that the author did this on purpose to show the momentum of the times, but I did not personally like these parts or know how to handle them.
