Not illustrated. 1913 Excerpt: ...feet long, covering about nine acres. It was located in the main group of exposition palaces in the northeastern section of the exposition grounds. The main front of the building faced the Sunken Garden and the westerly end fronted on the Plaza of Orleans. Exterior loggias ran along these two sides, and the four corners of the building terminated in pavilions with great arched entrances on either side, which gave a very pleasing and imposing effect. The central entrance on the garden front was in the form of a great hemi-cycle with a vaulted roof embellished with relief figures. A broad band of Pompeian red ran along the blank walls above the large handsomely designed windows and served to bring into bolder relief the beautiful columns of the loggias, particularly at night when the structure was illuminated. The ornamentation of the building was emphasized by a generous use of statuary symbolic of the character of the exhibits which it contained. As a whole the palace was attractive in outline and the verdict of the public was reflected in frequent and favorable comments of the press. The interior arrangement of the building was most satisfactory and effective. Well lighted and ventilated, its broad interior expanse was left clear for the most pleasing arrangement of exhibits, the floor areas being conveniently divided by the four great rows of truss columns which supported the roof. The walls of the building were plastered up to a height of nineteen feet. Above that the framing, posts and roof trusses were sprayed with fire-proof paint, of cream color. Ample conveniences for the public were provided in the way of toilet rooms, parcel rooms and drinking fountains.
