Ah, it's been a long, fluffy and mostly disappointing journey through this series. This one was where the disappointment peaked for me. This book felt like it took forever for me to finish. In The Tower of The Swallow, we see all the same issues I've had with the previous installments in the Witcher saga. The excessive details and dialogue about/between characters no one cares about, sometimes for seemingly no reason. The near total lack of fantasy creatures. The lack of Geralt. The thin and vague plotting. I mean seriously, this is book four and we still don't have even a sliver of an answer to why Ciri is important and what destiny she is apart of. We just know she is important and apart of a destiny, with some vague breadcrumbs about people in the past that are related to that destiny. The unbearably gray and thin world-building that is almost entirely consisting of detailing the war and geography between political entities that Sapkowski fails to give much of a reason to care about. On top of these problems, this book has got to have the most frustrating writing style so far. So much of the book is told through flashbacks and the viewpoint abruptly changes on a constant basis between a very bloated amount of characters, frequently at intervals smaller than a page in length.
At about halfway through this installment, I found myself skimming quite a bit. It drags, and drags, and draaaaaaags. I feel that the Witcher saga would have been much better as two novels with all the fluff cut out instead of the four I've read so far. Hopefully, Lady of the Lake pulls through for me with some good resolution, as I feel enough of a sunken cost in this series to finish it at this point.
