This ?Sons and Daughters? Series has been very enjoyable ? until this book. I?ve thought about it a great deal; it?s probably because this character, Allie Daltry, provided precious little with which to work. Each of the 6 Daltry kids has had something unique about him/her.
Lee (from THE LADIES' MAN) has a gorgeous smile, a great sense of humor and a can-do view of life.
Persy (from THE WALLFLOWER) was a master cook/baker; she ruled the kitchen.
C J (aka Cupid) (from THE MATCHMAKER) had several girlfriends at a time. He lived up to his name.
(Gorgeous) Venus (from THE FLIRT) had a string of broken hearts trailing behind her.
Allie (from this book) had Hal (a 1 year-older young man from the neighborhood) and was always on a horse with Hal; she was obviously a terminal tomboy.
We already know who her life partner is going to be and we know that she will have to suddenly acquire some feminine behaviors. Like I say, that?s not much with which to work!
Minerva, grandmother and the queen of mythology, gives each child a labor on his/her 20th birthday. Each of the 6 books is about one of the 6 kids. Each of the siblings is called to do something outside their skill-set ? to teach them about life and being a better-rounded person.
Thus, it is a given that Allie will do nothing related to the ranch. However, she is given 3 paltry labors ? they did not fit with the scope of the other books (in those, the labor was large and lasting about a year).
There are a few laugh-out-loud moments but otherwise the story was trite. 3 stars
