Unlike many of the recent strain of whiny, over-the-top memoirs (think Running with Scissors), Julia Blackburn's "The Three of Us" is full of touchingly genuine moments and achingly painful let downs by her alcoholic, poet father and competitive, artist mother. Blackburn manages to retell painful stories from her youth without sounding victimized or bitter. A must-read memoir.
