a giant among giants
it's been years since I've read this & I'm buying a copy for a former AirBorne friend of mine. I recall reading about Roy's Airborne training at Ft. Benning as being some of the most difficult of his career.
His intense training in becoming a Green Beret, U. S. Army Special Forces in Vietnam, & the unspoken 'brotherhood' of these elite soldiers, came into play as he volunteered to help rescue fellow Green Berets who were in a very serious 'combat situation'.
Roy went above & beyond on this mission, almost paying w/ his own life, in rescuing some of his fellow warriors, & this was the beginning of his journey to his MOH award. However, it is a twisty & event-filled path that takes into account not only 'extreme gallantry under fire', but political considerations too. He indeed must fight several wars to reach his destination.
