'This story of a flawed family on the brink of destruction grips from start to finish.' - Publishers Weekly Comic book artist Daniel Stone never for a moment suspected that the same boy whom his fourteen-year-old daughter, Trixie, loved might inflict upon her the worst possible harm. Could the young man, who once made Trixie's face fill with light when he came to the door, have drugged and then raped her? She says that he did, and that is all it takes to make Daniel, a man with a past he has hidden even from his family, venture to hell and back in order to protect his daughter. With a story that transports readers from small-town New England to the wilds of the Alaskan bush, and interspersed with parallel vision through the striking pen-and-ink pages of Daniel's graphic novel, Jodi Picoult probes the unbreakable bond between parent and child - and the dangerous repercussions of trying to play the hero. Jodi Picoult has written thirteen bestselling and widely acclaimed novels, including Vanishing Acts, My Sister's Keeper, Second Glance and The Pact. She lives in New Hampshire with her husband and three children.

Seller's Description:
Good in good dust jacket. Outline: -Jodi Picoult the New York Times bestselling author of Vanishing Acts offers her most powerful chronicle yet of an American family with a story that probes the unbreakable bond between parent and child--and the dangerous repercussions of trying to play the hero. Trixie Stone is fourteen years old and in love for the first time. She`s also the light of her father`s life--a straight-A student; a freshman in high school who is pretty and popular; a girl who`s always looked up to Daniel Stone as a hero. Until that is her world is turned upside down with a single act of violence...and suddenly everything Trixie has believed about her family--and herself--seems to be a lie. For fifteen years Daniel Stone has been an even-tempered mild-mannered man: a stay-at-home dad to Trixie and a husband who has put his own career as a comic book artist behind that of his wife Laura who teaches Dante`s Inferno at a local college. But years ago he was completely different: growing up as the only white boy in an Eskimo village he was teased mercilessly for the color of his skin. He learned to fight back: stealing drinking robbing and cheating his way out of the Alaskan bush. To become part of a family he reinvented himself channeling his rage onto the page and burying his past completely...until now. Could the young boy who once made Trixie`s face fill with light when he came to the door have been the one to end her childhood forever? She says that he is and that is all it takes to make Daniel a man with a history he has hidden even from his family venture to hell and back in order to protect his daughter. The Tenth Circle looks at that delicate moment when a child learns that her parents don`t know all of the answers and when being a good parent means letting go of your child. It asks whether you can reinvent yourself in the course of a lifetime or if your mistakes are carried forever--if life is as in any good comic book a struggle to control good and evil or if good and evil control you. -> the publisher of this PAPERBACK book is Hodder & Stoughton The date of this copy is 2006 booksalvation have grade it as Good and it will be shipped from our UK warehouse This book is from the Series. ANOTHER FANTASTIC NOVEL WRITTEN BY JODI PICOULT. I CAN RELATE TO THIS ONE BECAUSE IM IN MY EARLIER TWENTIES AND WHEN I WAS IN HIGH SCHOOL I KNEW PEOPLE AND HAD HEARD ABOUT OTHERS GOING THROUGH ALL THE THINGS THAT THE TEENAGE GIRL WENT THROUGH IN THIS STORY.
MUST READ!

Eye Opener!
I'm only 31, but when I was a teenager - girls didn't cut themselves... so this was an eye opener for me. The rest of the acting out - I recognized as things either I did or saw my friends doing as a reaction to stress & a lack of understanding of life changing events... I feel for the Dad that felt helpless... I could strike the Mom that cheated! Family life is tough.. open communication and trust is needed.
Great book! Interesting relation to the levels of hell and pretty neat puzzle discovered in the pages of the comic drawn by the Dad!!

Not my favorite Picoult
Although I enjoyed most of the book it seemed like it just went on and on...and on. Took me forever to finish it. Maybe Picoult is too serious for me to listen to in audiobook form (I kept falling asleep and then had to backtrack to find my place). I also had a hard time sympathizing with one of the main characters (Trixie). At times I felt for her and others I would find myself shaking my head. The ending seemed to lack something too--it was as if we went through this whole, long, drawn out journey and then zip! story over. Not my favorite Picoult but not a waste of time

Great book!
I would not normally be attracted to the story line of this book but it was recommended by someone & I picked it up. She is such a good writer that I'm sure she could write on almost any subject & make you want to keep reading until the end. She is very insightful and a great story teller. I had a hard time putting it down. Can't wait to read more of her books.

TEENAGERS ARE ANOTHER BREED
ALTHOUGH THIS WAS NOT MY FAVORITE BOOK BY THIS AUTHOR, IT WAS STILL AN ENJOYABLE READ THAT I WOULD RECOMMEND TO OTHERS. THIS AUTHOR HAS WONDERFUL CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT AND TAKES CONTROVERSIAL SUBJECTS AND WEAVES STORIES AROUND THEM. VERY SAD BUT UPLIFING AS WELL. I DID NOT LIKE THE GRAPHIC NOVEL ASPECT OF THIS BOOK AND FOUND MYSELF SKIPPING OVER THEM. BUT THAT WAS JUST ME.
