Signed presentation from Hichborn on front endpaper: "To Gardiner Johnson, with whose father, more than eighty years ago, I set coon traps and quail traps in pioneer Humboldt County. Franklin Hichborn, Santa Clara Calif. May 14, 1959." Gardiner Johnson was a California Assemblyman. Hichborn (1897-1951) was the former legislative reporter in Sacramento for the San Francisco Examiner. An examination on political corruption in San Francisco under the Ruef-Schmitz administration.
