I don't read fantasy novels unless there is some basis of truth in them. The Summer Country is one of those novels. For those of the Druid tradition The Summer Country will be appealing because of the character's interactions with the oak and the forest as a whole. For those of other traditions the abilities described not only depict what is but what could be. For those who just like a darn good tale of good (but not too good) versus evil The Summer Country is just such a novel. I was sad for it to end, I wanted it to go on and on, and hope to see more of the same from the author in the future.

Interesting Book
The previous owner of my house left a small sign on the back yard gate that reads 'Bloom where you are planted". This book's motto is more "Plant yourself where you can bloom". Maureen is very unpleasant woman, driven to extremes in bad behavior, self-doubt and alcoholism by events in the "real" world. Her entrance into the Summer Country brings to light her Old Blood heritage, her power and her responsibility to that heritage. Here is a place she can grown emotionally and spiritually and bring healing to herself and others under the domination of dark forces. The author brings us an alternate world in the Summer Country that is beautiful and dangerous. Power can corrupt, but it can also heal. Here Maureen, her sister Jo, Jo's boyfriend David and that hunky Pendragon devoted to Maureen can find a place where they belong. If you like magical realism give this one a try.
