"We are all poets once we're given the platform to share our voices and hearts. This compilation of poetry and artwork reflect how sharing our stories can transform and even start to heal an individual and draw a community closer together. Glocally Connected, a local nonprofit, has held a Community English as a Second Language (ESL) Program since January 2016. During 2018 and 2019, facilitators from Inlandia Institute joined our Community ESL Classes and introduced universal themes, such as: family, home, and beauty. The Afghan women in our class, as well as the volunteers who support the class and organization, wrote from their heart and formed deeper connections because they shared very personal perspectives and stories. The program also included a summer camp where the Afghan women's children joined in and created their own poetry and art. We also welcomed students from the University of California Riverside, our local college, to share their own poetry--their stories of moving to the U.S."--Page 4 of cover.
