Seller's Description:
None. Good. Two volumes bound as one of this novel by Moyle Sherer, describing the life of a man who is down on his luck. The first edition of this work. Complete with two volumes bound as one. The protagonist of this novel is described as a weak and wayward man, who is self-exiled and is subjected through long years of sorrow and unwelcome and unpleasant changes. Written by Moyle Sherer, though these volumes are published anonymously. Sherer was a British army officer, who travelled often and wrote about his travels. His other works include 'Sketches of India', 'Recollections of the Peninsula', 'Scenes and Impressions in Egypt and Italy', 'A Ramble in Germany', and more. He also experimented in fiction, as well as this novel, publishing 'Tales of the Wars of our times and 'The Broken Font', though these works were less successful than his non-fiction and 'The Story of a Life'. In the original half calf binding with marbled paper to the boards. Externally, rubbed to the boards, spine, joints, and extremities. Light fading to the spine. Spine label is lacking. Front hinge is strained close to the textblock. Rear hinge is starting but firm. Mark to the front pastedown. Internally, generally firmly bond. Pages are bright with scattered handling marks and the odd spot. Good.
