The Speakers of the House of Commons from the Earliest Times to the Present Day' looks throughout history at all of the speakers of the House of Commons. It also includes an interesting history of Westminster from the reign of Henry III to the early twentieth century. Speakers included are Thomas Hungerford, Thomas Chaucer, Robert Brooke, Heneage Finch, Bulstrode Whitelocke, John Cust, and John Evelyn Denison. Arthur Irwin Dasent was educated at Eton and became a clerk in the House of Commons. He wrote articles for numerous periodicals, such as 'The Saturday Review of Politics, Literature, Science, and Art', and 'The Spectator. He also wrote widely about the history of London. Fully illustrated throughout, with a portrait of every speaker where a portrait could be found. With a frontispiece, and one-hundred and one plates, including two folding plates. Â In the publisher's original green cloth binding. Externally, smart and good colour. Bumping to head and tail of spine and extremities. Internally, hinges very loose but firm. Binding is generally firm. Light handling marks and spotting to the first and last few pages, but otherwise pages generally bright and clean. Good.
