The Sokoto Caliphate in northern NIgeria in the first part of 19th century is a period of turmoil and conquests of a a Fulani religious figure and his, and his his followers to establish a Madist state in West Africa by overthrowing the existing warring Hausa States, weak followers of Islam, Then the slow decline of the state and its breakup into many states that resembled the former Hausa states.
