I agree with alot of the recovery methods and finding strength within yourself to maintain sobriety and change your way of thinking. I understand the altenative purpose of another program that doesn't require religion. Personally with 15 years of recovery, my 1st few meetings I attended the Higher power & religious ideas almost scared me away for good. I now believe if you hang in there your higher power will come to you and serenity & peace come from the very thing that scared me. I believe a higher power and working the steps is the only way to true lasting change and happiness in sobriety. I do not think I could have remained sober this long without it. On the other hand, I believe you can use both styles of recovery and combine Rational Recovery and conventional AA/NA meetings and use them to achieve greater success. Alot of the RR techniques would have helped me at the beginning of my recovery before I could accept the spiritual part of AA/NA. I believe that using the right mixture of the 2 theories will provide a greater path to long term sobriety.
