He's sentenced to a life term at the Shawshank State Prison in Maine, where another lifer, Ellis "Red" Redding (Morgan Freeman), picks him as the new recruit most likely to crack under the pressure. The ugly realities of prison life are quickly introduced to Andy: a corrupt warden (Bob Gunton), sadistic guards led by Capt. Byron Hadley (Clancy Brown), and inmates who are little better than animals, willing to use rape or beatings to insure their dominance. One of my favorite movies of all time. Brilliantly cast with Tim Robbins and Morgan Freeman.
Based on the short story by Steven King, Frank Darabont tells a moving story set in the 1940s about a young banker wrongfully convicted and imprisoned for the murder of his wife. Lonely and very isolated at first, he soon realises there is something deep inside within that no one can ever take away from you.
Loved it from beginning to end, with all the subtleties and ingenuities and the pureness of friendship in all the unlikely places. Shawshank Redemption is a masterpiece that has and will continue to transcend time.
