For another, Shartelle is Southern and fiercely proud of it, and his ideas about racial politics veer unpredictably from progressive to rigidly old-fashioned. But Shartelle is the best, and the political future of Albertia is too important to be left to anyone else. If history is any indication, this first fair election will probably be the country's last. Rich natural resources make it attractive to businessmen on both sides of the Atlantic, opening Albertia up to political corruption. For his part, Shartelle is hired to make sure that a British industrialist's favored candidate wins the presidency. But the opposition is backed by the CIA, for whom murder is just another political tool.

This was Thomas' third work, following 'The Cold War Swap' and 'Cast A Yellow Shadow'. Ross Thomas was a popular crime and thriller author, who won the Edgar Award for his debut novel. Some of his other novels include 'The Fools in Town are on Our Side', 'The Porkchopper', and 'The Eighth Dwarf'. In a blue cloth binding with original clipped dustwrapper. Externally, smart. Some light bumping to the head and tail of the spine and to the extremities. Dustwrapper has some edgewear (including a few small closed tears), some handling marks, and a label to the rear. Ink signature to front free-endpaper, with bookseller's label to rear pastedown, which has offset slightly onto the endpaper. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright and clean. Very Good Indeed.
