When this book was mentioned by my pastor in a sermon I decided to give it a try. McLaren makes a good case for why Jesus didn't fit neatly into any of the social groups of his day, and therefore why his message, when truly understood in context of the times, was so troubling. No one could pigeon-hole him based on his teachings. The author takes us into today and how we can understand that message be a better servant of the living God. Chapter 18 is particularly good in explaining the way to be inclusive of people without giving the impression of being inclusive of all ideas, or setting the body of believers up for those who inflitrate with only plans to cause trouble rather than pursue a Godly life. I drop a star in the rating because I disagree with his premise in chapter 19. He just doesn't present an explanation of Revelation that doesn't leave a lot of unanswered questions.
