Peter Lovesey manages, in this series, to include a lot of interesting history and local culture (Bath, England) that I knew nothing about, as well as give us challenging mysteries that are traditional "whodunits". Diamond is a delightful character, full of foibles and gaffes but always, in the end, brilliant. One of the top detective series.
